16 questions

Where can I find SWAYE?

You’ll find us at 15 Mailer Street in Mornington, Dunedin. We’re open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am–4pm.

Can I buy from the website?

For now, SWAYE is an in-store boutique. Come in to browse and try pieces on. You can send us a message here if you have a question before visiting.

What will I find in store?

Preloved clothing, shoes and accessories, selected with an eye for quality, condition and style. Each piece is individual, so the selection depends on what is available in the shop.

Can I return something if I change my mind?

Please choose carefully, as we don’t offer change-of-mind returns. If something is faulty or doesn’t meet your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act, please get in touch so we can assess it and provide the appropriate remedy.

How does consignment work?

We sell accepted pieces on your behalf. Before the items go on sale, we agree the commission, selling period and what you want us to do if something doesn’t sell. You remain the owner while your items are on consignment, subject to your agreement.

Can I send photos before bringing something in?

Yes. Send a message through our enquiry form and add up to four photos. A front view, the brand and size label, and any wear or faults are helpful. Photos give us a starting point; final acceptance depends on seeing the item in person.

What condition should my items be in?

Please bring items freshly cleaned and ready to wear, with no noticeable odours, stains, pet hair or missing fastenings. Let us know about any wear or faults. If you’re unsure, send a photo and ask first.

Which labels, styles and sizes do you accept?

We consider quality, condition, style, season and what is likely to suit the shop. Please ask about your particular pieces rather than relying on a fixed brand list. We can’t accept every item.

Do I need an appointment?

No appointment is needed. You’re welcome to bring your pieces into the shop during opening hours. If you’d like to contact us first, you can send a message and optional photos.

Who sets the price?

We set the starting selling price and may reduce it to help an item sell, in line with your agreed consignment terms. Share any useful details about the piece when you bring it in.

How much do I get?

You receive 50% less GST.

How long will my items stay on sale?

We agree a selling period when each item is accepted. It may differ for clothing, shoes or a special piece that needs more time. Your recorded agreement shows the date for each item.

What happens if something doesn’t sell?

You choose Donate or Collect when your items are accepted. If you choose Donate, we decide who receives the items. If you choose collection, we’ll notify you when the agreed selling period ends and give you 14 days to collect. Please keep your email address or mobile number up to date. Any further action is governed by your agreed terms.

How and when do I get paid?

We pay electronically to your nominated bank account within 14 days after your items are sold, unless you have asked us by email to hold the payment as store credit. Contact us directly to confirm your bank details; please don’t send them through the general enquiry form.

Can I log in to see my items?

Yes. You can log in to your consignor account to see your items, selling dates, sales and recorded payments. You don’t need an account to bring pieces into the shop or send an enquiry.

Do I need an email address?

We need either an email address or a mobile number so we can contact you about your items. If you don’t use email, let us know and agree the best contact method in store.
